Ontario Health and Safety Representative - Utility

JOB TITLE: Ontario Utility Health and Safety Representative
LOCATION: Ontario - Travel as required
REPORTS TO: Director HSEQ and Utility General Manager
POSITION OVERVIEW:

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Director Health, Safety Environment & Quality and the Utilities General Manager. The candidate will assist with all aspects of the Utilities East Division with regards to all Health, Safety and Environment requirements which includes field inspections, training, auditing, client requirements and investigations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support the Utility business in the Ontario region
  2. Conduct and prepare frequent workplace inspections reports as per RBS and client requirements
  3. Complete Incident Investigations as per the RBS and client process requirements
  4. Establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise
  5. Work effectively as a team member, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication, and updating business leaders as needed
  6. Build strong internal relationships with other departments across the organization and external relationships with clients
  7. Facilitate training courses and RBS/client orientations as needed
  8. Take part in, and represent the company during site meetings and client safety meetings
  9. Dedication to teamwork and leadership
  10. Demonstrate advanced written and verbal communication skills
  11. Participate in the evaluation and development of the health, safety & environment management system design and implementation, process improvement
  12. Travel as necessary across Ontario if required to meet with clients, visit/audit projects and perform/coordinate identified training programs.
  13. Ensure management systems meet all company certifications and are maintained for all required audits, ongoing requirements.
  14. Respond to corrective actions following audits, investigations if the HSEMS requires improvement
  15. Accountable for supporting a proactive Somerville Safety Culture

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum 3-5 years related experience preferred
  2. Experience in the construction industry. Familiarity with utility construction is preferred.
  3. Able to employ engineering/construction plans/specifications methods and procedures.
  4. Excellent communication and organizational skills
  5. Must be able to read, write and speak English
  6. Proficient with MS Office, including MS Project
  7. Able to establish and maintain good working relationships with many different people including senior managers, clients and field personnel
  8. Able to problem solve and take initiative
  9. Able to travel across Canada
  10. Must have valid driver’s license.
