Hours of Work : Standard days; includes occasional evenings and weekends (37.5 hours / week)

Annual Salary Range : $50,000 - $54,000

Are you passionate about supporting community members in social services?

We are looking for an individual to join our Niigaaniin Team in Garden River First Nation, providing services under the Ontario Disability Support Program. If you are an out-of-the-box thinker with a proven track record of working with Indigenous people in social services, then you need to apply and join our Niigaaniin Team!

Purpose and Scope

Under the direction of the Deggaabwit Manager and Director of Niigaaniin Services, the Deggaabwit performs a wide variety of duties using a case management approach to deliver the Ontario Disability Support Program, including maintaining eligibility for income and employment supports.

Requirements

  • Preferred to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation.
  • College diploma and / or a university degree in social work, or a minimum of five years' work experience in social assistance.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other computer applications.
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check.
  • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle are assets.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Anishnaabemowin, culture, and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Waawiindamaagewin.
  • Knowledge of ODSP legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and funding arrangements (asset).
  • Understanding of barriers faced by people with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services for community members with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with community services, networks, and Niigaaniin Services.
  • Ability to work in a performance-based system, meeting targets and outcomes.
  • Excellent customer / community service skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills using problem-solving and supportive approaches.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills for effective case management both online and in person.
  • Time management skills to keep cases and tasks up to date.
  • Ability to learn new skills and software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain a supportive environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate effective listening skills for needs assessment and referrals.
