Job summary

The City of Winnipeg is seeking a General Electrician for the Water and Waste Department. This permanent-on-temporary-basis, full-time role involves skilled journey-level electrical work, maintenance, testing and construction in various environments on site at 598 Plinguet Street or as assigned.

Responsibilities include diagnosing malfunctions, wiring, testing, preventive maintenance and coordinating with contractors while ensuring safety and code compliance.

Qualifications

• Possession of, or ability to acquire within a reasonable time, a City of Winnipeg Electrical Contractor's License where relevant to a position's duties and as required by a Department.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and tables.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to maintain accurate records.
• Physically capable of performing the duties including confined spaces, ladders and hazardous locations.

Responsibilities

• Locate, diagnose and rectify problems in electrical systems following malfunctions.
• Install, connect and test electrical equipment and systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance and adjust/repair components as required.
• Provide estimates for time and material and procure supplies.
• Lead and supervise Apprentices as assigned and act as Lead Electrician when required.
