Summary Of The Opportunity
SelfDesign Learning Community has an immediate need for online grade K-9 educators (called Learning Consultants) for the 2025-26 learning year. We welcome applications from B.C. certified teachers with a background in grades K-9, and a desire to work in a unique online learning environment in support of learners from grade K-9. There are part-time opportunities available.
Our K-9 Learning Consultants (LCs) work collaboratively with families to craft a unique learning plan for each learner based on each individual's interests and passions. LCs have weekly communication with learners/families regarding progress towards learning plan goals and assist learners in deepening their interests by offering strategies and other supports. In addition, LCs maintain records in order to inform their seasonal assessments and support learners with self-assessment.
Work Environment
We are a remote organization.
LCs K-9 set their own hours of work. They may meet with learners/ families via video-conferencing at mutually agreed upon times.
Timelines
Contract start date: August 1, 2025
Contract end date: July 31, 2026
Remuneration
Learning Consultants are paid on a per learner basis of $2031 per learner per year for the 2024/25 learning year. 2025/26 per learner rates are being reviewed and will be published in July.

Contract Details
Oversight
You will work at the direction of the Team Lead listed above, and in close collaboration with the Educator Services team.
Services Required
- Creating and monitoring a personalized learning plan for each learner
- Weekly teacherly support of learning (once weekly, combination of written and video conferencing)
- Guiding and supporting families with Learning Resources and Services (LRS) budget allotment
- Weekly maintenance of learner assessment records
- Learning updates (report cards)
- Participate in regular mentor-led orientation, meetings and workshops

Mandatory requirements
- B.C. Certified teacher in good standing
- Prior to being contracted, applicants must successfully complete an online orientation prior to the August 1, 2025 start date. This orientation supports deeper learning about SelfDesign philosophy and approach, and connects new educators with their mentors.
- All contractors are required to take the SelfDesign online orientation courses.
