Job summary

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto seeks an Oncology Nurse Practitioner (adult EC) to provide advanced nursing care for CNS cancer patients, with emphasis on palliative care and symptom management. You will assess, order tests, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Current College of Nurses of Ontario registration in the extended class (EC) as an NP (adult) required.
• Masters in Nursing/Nurse Practitioner (MN‑NP) or post Master’s NP Certificate required.
• Certification in Oncology Nursing or palliative care preferred or commitment to obtain certification when eligible.

Responsibilities

• Practice within the full scope of the NP role including assessments, ordering diagnostic tests, and developing and managing therapeutic care plans.
• Perform patient assessments including health history, symptoms, functional and psychosocial evaluation, and review of lab and imaging data.
• Formulate comprehensive, evidence‑based plans of care with education, symptom management, prescriptions, and referrals.
• Communicate with patients, families, and healthcare providers in clinic, by phone, and via virtual channels.
• Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning in decision making and care planning.
• Coordinate with nurses and interprofessional teams to integrate research findings into patient care.
• Provide leadership for quality improvement initiatives, policies, and best practices.
• Collaborate with the interprofessional team and unit leaders to advance goals and care.
• Participate in professional development of staff.
• Maintain CNS Oncology expertise with appropriate oncology experience and palliative care familiarity.
