Job Description

Ekati Diamond Mine (in the NWT) is currently looking for Journeymen Heavy Equipment Technicians (ON ROAD) who have the ability to diagnose and repair a variety of mobile equipment.

This is a 2 week fly in/out position and a possibility of working days or nights, based off schedule. Flights paid for out of Calgary.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Provide Technical Support and coaching to assist the department and the company to strive to achieve their goals of "ZERO HARM"
  • Troubleshoot and repair of light duty and medium duty mining equipment: Ford Super Duties, Western Star Trucks, Freightliners, Road Trains, Trailer, Getmans, Toyotas Minecats, Genie Lifts and many others.
  • The disassembly/overhaul of engines or engine components, transmissions, drive systems components and other assemblies
  • The diagnosis of equipment problems; identifying and replacing, as required, worn or broken parts, making all necessary adjustments and alignments
  • The diagnosis of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, identifying and replacing worn or broken parts, making all necessary adjustments and alignments
  • Suspension and brake repairs
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Keeping the shop safe, by maintaining a safe, clean and organized work area
  • Other duties as requested

Main Qualifications:

  • A valid Heavy Equipment Technician License with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in repair and service of heavy equipment both in the shop and in the field
  • Detroit DD training and experience
  • Allison Automatic Transmission training and experience
  • CAT expereince
  • Proven track record in safe work practices and quality workmanship
  • Ability to work alone and unsupervised in remote areas
  • Focused, energetic and organized with superior attention to detail and a sense of urgency
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Motivated and hard working with a professional attitude
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Language: Speak English, Read English, Write English.
  • Motivated to work under harsh Arctic temperatures
  • Previous mining experience is a plus
