Job summary

British Columbia Public School Employers' Association in BC is seeking a Casual On-Call Education Assistant to support students with special needs under the supervision of a classroom teacher. This role suits individuals who are flexible and available on short notice.

You will provide direct instructional support, assist with personal care and behavioral needs, supervise during noon-hour, and help prepare instructional materials.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent required.
• Experience with children (minimum 3 years) required.
• EA 1 or EA 2 qualifications preferred.
• First Aid/CPR training or willingness to obtain.
• Courses in childhood and special needs education preferred.
• Computer literacy at least 30 wpm.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instructional support to individual students or small groups.
• Assist students with personal, behavioral, and communication needs.
• Supervise and assist with personal care, hygiene, and toileting as required.
• Administer medical needs as instructed.
• Prepare and modify instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
• Collaborate with the school-based team on IEPs.
• Accompany students on field trips and life skills programs.
• Perform other duties including noon-hour supervision.
