Job description

We are looking for On-Call Early Childhood Educators to support children at our Daycare.

The On-Call Early Childhood Educator provides a safe and nurturing environment that fosters the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, creative, and cultural development of children. Valuing the contributions and needs of parents, the educator works in partnership with them to provide quality care and education.

Supports Needed
Education Program
  • Plan and prepare a quality program aligned with the centre’s philosophy
  • Organize and lead daily activities that stimulate children’s development
  • Encourage cooperation and participation among children
  • Create a safe and secure environment
  • Collaborate with co-workers and professionals to meet children’s needs
Child Guidance
  • Treat each child with dignity, respect, love, sensitivity, and care
  • Use age-appropriate guidance techniques that promote socially acceptable behavior
  • Adhere to the B.C. Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Engage with children individually and as a group as needed
Health and Safety
  • Monitor children for signs of illness upon arrival and during the day
  • Record signs of illness and inform the supervisor
  • Perform scheduled housekeeping duties
  • Store hazardous materials securely
  • Teach health, nutrition, hygiene, and rest habits
  • Maintain hygiene practices
  • Follow policies for medication administration
  • Administer First Aid when necessary
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor play at all times
Parent Liaison
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents
  • Communicate openly about children’s needs and progress
  • Address questions about policies
  • Contribute to the monthly parent newsletter
  • Participate in planning and executing events and workshops for parents
  • Serve as a resource person
Additional
  • Assist in emergency services as required
  • Participate in community events upon request
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Early Childhood Educator Certification
  • Current First Aid Certificate as per Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Experience with children under six
  • Experience with First Nations communities is an asset
  • Experience handling confidential information

Preference may be given to candidates knowledgeable about Okanagan culture and traditions.
