Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Older Adult Group Coordinator & Facilitator to join the Geriatric Mental Health team in Richmond, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Group Coordinator & Facilitator with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

  1. Research and develop group support programs and related information for clients to encourage community connection in areas such as mental health, dementia, healthy aging, caregiver support, and other related topics associated with aging.
  2. Develop, plan, and facilitate group programming; identify client needs, determine content and structure, and consult with clients and community partners to gather pertinent information.
  3. Collaborate with external agencies in the development and sustainment of programming. Recruit, interview, orient, and support volunteers.
  4. Evaluate programs using information gathered by observation, surveys, and other tools, as well as client feedback on issues such as session effectiveness, materials utilized, and compile feedback summaries.
  5. Prepare and maintain program materials.
  6. Arrange support programs; schedule sessions, create promotional materials, book facilities, and arrange for materials, audiovisual equipment, and presenters.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12, Social Services Diploma or Certificate from a recognized Healthcare Worker Program.
  • Two (2) years recent, related experience in a mental health & addictions service setting providing group therapy to older adults with mental health and substance use concerns, and coordinating volunteer programs, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License may be required for local travel.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of recovery principles in mental illness.
  • Understanding of mental health, substance abuse, and addiction disorders within the older adult context.
  • Knowledge of community resources and their role in client care.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and government policies.
  • Understanding of group dynamics and processes.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, maintaining respectful relationships.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop client-centered solutions from a systems perspective.
  • Experience working in a community-based system.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to unexpected events and handle conflicts effectively.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with clients, families, colleagues, and service providers.
  • Experience working with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to facilitate groups and workshops.
  • Community engagement skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to operate related equipment and to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to establish rapport with clients.
  • Basic computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and client care information systems.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
