Job summary

Northview Residential REIT in Iqaluit, NU is seeking an Oil Heat Systems Technician to support safe and reliable heating across residential properties. The role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of oil-fired heating systems, reporting to the Facilities Manager, and collaborating with maintenance teams and contractors.

Qualifications

• Valid Oil Heat Systems Technician, Oil Burner Technician 1, or Oil Burner Technician 2 certification is required.
• Experience with oil-fired heating systems, boilers, and related equipment.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems is expected.
• Plumbing experience is an asset and works well with facilities teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform plumbing, mechanical, and renovation work in accordance with work orders, plans, specifications, and established procedures.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and service malfunctioning oil burners, heating systems, and related equipment to identify and resolve operational issues.
• Lay out, assemble, install, and connect oil burner heating system components and related equipment in accordance with applicable requirements and manufacturer specifications.
• Test installed and repaired equipment and adjust controls, settings, and components as required to ensure proper and efficient operation.
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, servicing, and repairs on motors, pumps, control devices, boilers, forced air furnaces, oil-fired hot water tanks, and other oil-fired heating equipment
• Inspect heating systems and mechanical equipment to identify deficiencies, wear, potential failures, or other issues requiring repair or further investigation
• Respond to maintenance and service requests, prioritize work based on urgency and operational requirements, and complete assigned work orders within established timelines
• Travel to other communities as required to complete maintenance, repair, installation, inspection, or emergency work
• Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition
• Follow all applicable health and safety requirements, safe work practices, manufacturer specifications, and company policies and procedures

We are looking for an Oil Heat Systems Technicianto join our Residential team in Iqaluit, NU. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, supporting safe and reliable heating across Northview’s Northern communities, the Journeyman Oil Burner Mechanic performs skilled installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of oil-fired heating systems and related mechanical equipment. Reporting to the Facilities Manager and working alongside maintenance teams, Power Engineers, Plumbers, and contractors, this role plays an important part in keeping residential heating systems safe, efficient, and operational year-round. Through preventative maintenance, timely response to service needs, and quality workmanship, the Journeyman Oil Burner Mechanic helps maintain reliable building operations and a safe, comfortable environment for Northview residents.

Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and service malfunctioning oil burners, heating systems, and related equipment to identify and resolve operational issues
• Lay out, assemble, install, and connect oil burner heating system components and related equipment in accordance with applicable requirements and manufacturer specifications
• Test installed and repaired equipment and adjust controls, settings, and components as required to ensure proper and efficient operation
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, servicing, and repairs on motors, pumps, control devices, boilers, forced air furnaces, oil-fired hot water tanks, and other oil-fired heating equipment
• Inspect heating systems and mechanical equipment to identify deficiencies, wear, potential failures, or other issues requiring repair or further investigation
• Respond to maintenance and service requests, prioritize work based on urgency and operational requirements, and complete assigned work orders within established timelines
• Identify required supplies, parts, tools, and equipment and compile materials lists for sealift shipments and other supply requirements
• Assist with inventory and stock control, including identifying required parts and supplies and maintaining adequate materials for ongoing maintenance and emergency repairs
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, equipment servicing, materials used, and other work completed as required
• Ensure mechanical rooms, equipment access points, and surrounding areas are kept clear of snow, ice, debris, and other obstructions to maintain safe access to heating systems
• Coordinate with other maintenance staff, contractors, and regional teams as required to complete work and address heating, plumbing, and other building-related issues
• Identify issues requiring specialized services or additional resources and communicate requirements to the appropriate supervisor or manager
• Participate in a rotating call-out team and respond to heating system failures, maintenance emergencies, and other urgent service requirements outside of regular working hours
• Travel to other communities as required to complete maintenance, repair, installation, inspection, or emergency work
• Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition
• Follow all applicable health and safety requirements, safe work practices, manufacturer specifications, and company policies and procedures
• Ensure safety standards are met when performing maintenance, repairs, installations, and other work

Qualifications & Experience:

• Possess a valid Oil Heat Systems Technician, Oil Burner Technician 1, or Oil Burner Technician 2 certification
• Previous experience troubleshooting, repairing, servicing, installing, and maintaining oil-fired heating systems and related equipment
• Previous experience performing preventative maintenance and repairs on boilers, forced air furnaces, oil-fired hot water tanks, motors, pumps, and control devices
• Plumbing experience is an asset
• Previous experience in the property management or facilities maintenance industry is an asset
• Experience interpreting work orders, plans, specifications, and manufacturer instructions
• Experience identifying parts, supplies, tools, and equipment required to complete maintenance and repair work

Requirements:

• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to prioritize and respond effectively to routine maintenance requirements and emergency situations
• Ability to maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, inspection documentation, and other required records
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and other stakeholders
• Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs or ladders, and lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and materials
• Ability to work in mechanical rooms, equipment areas, vacant and occupied suites, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions
• Willingness and ability to participate in a rotating call-out team and respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours
• Willingness and ability to travel to other communities as required
• Able to provide a criminal background check free from relevant convictions
• Valid class 5 driver's license with the ability to provide a clean drivers abstract.
