Job Summary
The Officer, Transportation Training and Development – Field, acts as a safety leader for employees, ensuring they are trained to meet regulatory standards and enabling the efficient delivery of goods to CN’s customers.
Main Responsibilities
- Evaluate employee performance in the field and ensure compliance with regulations, company policies, and standards.
- Support the development of Transportation employees through regular mentoring and connecting them with CN resources.
- Provide in-field training such as remote-control operation courses, switching camps, and other initiatives.
- Manage qualifications and certifications of Transportation employees and managers, including supporting employees returning from leaves.
- Assist the Talent Acquisition team with recruitment and onboarding processes.
- Support the local Operations team to ensure understanding of operating rules and practices.
- Input all training events into the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Maintain training resource equipment, job aids, and records of scheduled maintenance.
- Ensure training materials and job aids are current and support employee development.
- Participate in safety audits and summits, and perform safety observations.
- Support the delivery of training programs at campuses as needed.
Working Conditions
The role involves working in both office and outdoor environments under various weather conditions, with irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Occasional travel (up to 50%) is required to deliver training in the field.
Requirements
Railway Experience
- Minimum 18 months of railway experience.
- Experience as a Conductor, Locomotive Engineer, Remote Control Operator, or a combination thereof.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring Transportation employees.
- Familiarity with behavior-based safety principles and leadership.
Education / Certification / Designation
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of CN’s medical assessment.

- Fluent bilingual skills in English and French, both written and verbal; mandatory for Montreal and asset for other locations.
