Job summary

The Vancouver School Board (VSB) is seeking an Office Administration on-call to support multiple sites. The role focuses on phone handling, office management, and directing on-call staff, with duties including reconciliations, accounts processing, and report preparation.

Ideal candidates will have Grade 12 plus post-secondary training in business/office administration and at least two years of office experience, strong Word/Excel skills, and excellent English communication.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus one (1) year post-secondary training in business/office administration and a minimum of two (2) years of office experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge, coursework, training, or experience in Accounting/Bookkeeping is an asset.
  • Experience working with an HCM (e.g., PeopleSoft), payroll, or accounting system is an asset.
  • Must be willing to obtain an Intermediate First Aid Certificate (2 days training) and be comfortable in the role of first aid attendant. Course fees are paid by the VSB, and employees are paid at the regular day's rate during the training.

Responsibilities

  • In this role you will use your excellent customer service skills to answer the phone, manage the school office, and help direct on-call staff.
  • You will perform reconcile, process accounts and invoices and compose and prepare correspondence and reports.
  • As an active member of the school community, you will contribute to a positive school culture and have a direct impact on the staff and students.

$29.68 per hour+20% in lieu of benefits, if not contributingto MPP

THE OPPORTUNITY: OFFICE ADMINISTRATION ON-CALL

The VSB is actively recruiting office administration staff for our on-call office support list. Most of our office administration positions are school based; however, depending on your skill set and interests there are opportunities to build your career in Human Resources, Payroll, Accounting, Purchasing, Operations, and various other departments. This position is on-call, but is busy throughout the year with an exception during school breaks (e.g., July, August, Spring/Christmas Break).

Once hired, employees can remain on-call or apply to temporary contracts and continuing/permanent positions via the VSB internal job board. School based positions are generally 10-month positions (offices closed during school breaks); whereas positions in the VSB Main Office are generally full-time, 12-month positions. All permanent positions include a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental and municipal pension plan) after passing a probation period of 16 weeks.

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position ranges from $29.68 to $33.98/hour (7 hours/day) plus 20% in lieu of all benefits and stat holidays (14% if contributing to an existing municipal pension plan).

This position is 100% in-person/in-office at various VSB sites.
