Job summary

St. Lawrence College is seeking a dedicated professional to support student transition and retention by coordinating housing-related supports for on and off-campus living. The role engages with students, families, staff and housing providers to sustain rentals and develop new options such as HomeShare.

The incumbent will deliver educational sessions, address rental challenges, and work collaboratively to ensure safe, affordable housing access for students in Kingston and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

  • 3-year diploma or degree in Social Work, Sociology, Behavioural Sciences, Social Sciences or Education.
  • Minimum 3 years leadership experience in a post-secondary residence life or community housing setting.
  • Experience developing and delivering housing programs/workshops for students (domestic and international).
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities; excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to transition and retention of students through supports and services related to off-campus housing.
  • Collaborate with off-campus housing providers to sustain and create rental opportunities (including HomeShare).
  • Facilitate educational sessions for students, families, staff and property owners; assist students navigating rental issues.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The incumbent is a social innovator that significantly contributes to the successful transition and retention of students at St. Lawrence College through the provision of supports and services related to safe traditional and non-traditional off campus housing. The incumbent works with students and off campus housing providers to sustain existing rental opportunities through the creation of strong community partnerships. The incumbent also develops new non-traditional rental opportunities through innovative initiatives like HomeShare. In addition, the incumbent facilitates educational awareness sessions for students, families, St. Lawrence College staff, and property owners and provides support for students that find themselves in need of help when navigating difficult rental arrangements.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

A minimum of a 3-year diploma or degree in Social Work, Sociology, Behavioural Sciences, Social Sciences or Education.

A minimum of 3 years demonstrated leadership experience in a post-secondary residence life and/or community housing setting.

Other Required Qualifications:
  • Experience developing and delivering housing related programs/workshops for domestic and international students.
  • Experience with risk management in a post-secondary housing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Intermediate computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, database, email and internet applications)
  • Strong organizational / multi-tasking skills
  • Detail-oriented and accurate
  • Collaborative and active team player
  • Strong human relations/interpersonal and listening skills are a requirement of this position
Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements

The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location. Local travel to visit sites, properties, HomeShare families, rental properties and in all campus communities. Some non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends.

Salary & TeRMS
  • Support Group: Pay Band G
  • Hours per week: 35
  • Start Rate: $34.60, plus 8% in lieu of vacation
