Job description

Status : Temporary Full-Time (up to 12 months with possible extension)

Union Association : OPSEU

Salary : $40.36-$56.30 / Hour

Position Summary :

Under the general direction of the Manager, the Occupational Therapist practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO), within a patient and family-centered care model, and aligned with the vision and values of Brockville General Hospital (BGH). The role involves providing occupational therapy services to help patients achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes, working independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

The Occupational Therapist participates in in-service and hospital-wide activities that promote a safe, healthy, patient-centered environment and contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

Education and Experience :

  • Masters and/or Baccalaureate degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized university. Membership in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT) is encouraged.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience providing direct clinical services within inpatient and/or outpatient mental health interdisciplinary settings.
  • Clinical experience in assessment and treatment (individual and group) of disorders such as Schizophrenia Spectrum, Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, including proficiency in cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy, and other evidence-based modalities.
  • Current BCLS certification required.
  • Proof of malpractice insurance as required by COTO.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License and a clean Ministry of Transportation Driver’s Abstract.
  • Current Assistive Devices Program (ADP) authorization is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Regulated Health Care Professions Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decisions Act).
  • Experience with Occupational Therapy assessment techniques, treatment modalities, and working with mental health populations.
  • Experience in non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of the regional healthcare system, including mental health and addiction services, community resources, and referral processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills.
  • Effective time management, organization, and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good attendance and availability are required.
