Our wonderful client is looking to bring on a Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist for their long-term care facility located in NW Calgary. This is a maternity leave contract running until November 2024, operating at 38.75 hrs/week or 5 days a week depending on the candidate.

As a Physiotherapist / Occupational Therapist, your main responsibility is to maintain the overall physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the residents under your care. This is achieved through personalized programs and therapies aimed at providing the residents with the necessary tools for success.

The ideal candidate will be committed to consistently upholding the highest standard of care and advocacy for their patients. Required are strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as active listening skills with a warm and positive demeanor, all while balancing resident care, customer service, and juggling competing tasks in a calm and effective manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and facilitate physiotherapy programs per each resident's physical functioning such as range of motion, strength, ambulation, balance, endurance, pain, and musculoskeletal issues.
  • Create and facilitate occupational therapy programs per each resident’s abilities in such areas as ADLs (feeding, toilet transfer, and dressing), cognition, communication, and fine motor coordination.
  • Evaluate and adapt resident programs on a quarterly basis based on their current needs and goals while adhering to the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and internal standards of practice.
  • Utilize InterRai MDS for treatment paperwork and ensure all documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Adhere to best safety and sanitary practices including preventative maintenance of all program equipment, providing, monitoring, and managing the inventory of bed alarms, chair alarms, fall mats, and hip protectors.
  • Utilize government resources to obtain specialty equipment as required and provide referrals for community resources when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical or Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Current registration with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) or the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA).

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
  • Ability to work in a vaccine mandated environment.
  • Occupational Therapists – must have ‘SWAT’ designation or complete required training within the 1st year of employment (conditional on acceptance by AHS into the SWAT program).
  • Occupational Therapists – must have ‘AADL Authorizer’ designation or register for AADL Authorizer course at time of hire.
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience related to continuing care services is required.
  • Experience working with cognitively impaired persons and their families is preferred.

Base Salary: $40-46 per hour

  • Salary based on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.

Work Hours:

  • 38.75 hours per week or 5 days per week (flexible).
  • Monday – Friday.

Remote Work:

  • This position is not remote and requires on-site presence.

Additional Notes:

  • This opportunity does not include relocation. It will be the responsibility of the candidate should relocation be required.
