Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an Occupational Therapist I to support the General Pediatric Clinic at South Health Campus in Calgary. The OT will provide comprehensive assessment and therapy for infants and children across developmental and feeding needs within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment and therapeutic intervention for infants and children with developmental, neurodevelopmental, neurodevelopmental, musculoskeletal, and feeding and swallowing needs.
• Collaborate with families, physiotherapists, therapy assistants, and other interdisciplinary team members to screen, assess and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Supervise Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides; may provide clinical supervision.
• Participate in interprofessional teams to support quality improvement and collaborative care.
• Contribute to patient and family centred care and advocate for clients within their environments.

Job description

This Occupational Therapist (OT) I position supports the General Pediatric Clinic at SHC and is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a collaborative multidisciplinary team. Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager, the OT is responsible for providing comprehensive assessment and therapeutic intervention for infants and children with developmental, neurodevelopmental, musculoskeletal, and feeding and swallowing needs, according to professional practice standards. The OT will collaborate closely with families, physiotherapists, therapy assistants, and other interdisciplinary team members to screen, assess and implement individualized treatment plans. This position requires strong communication, organization, adaptability, and time management skills as well as the ability to supervise Therapy Assistants and respond effectively to a variety clinical and operational demands. This position requires static positioning while in a crouched position over the infant while observing feeding or providing positioning assistance; repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and or equipment. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations.

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program.Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Knowledge and experience with developmental, neurodevelopmental, and musculoskeletal conditions in infants and children. Experience with neonatal eating, feeding and swallowing care provision. Proficient computer skills required. Minimum of 2 years working as an Occupational Therapist.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience, continuing education, or post-graduate training in pediatrics. Experience providing feeding support to children <18 month. Experience working in an outpatient pediatric setting. Experience leading groups.
