Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health’s Home Health Rehabilitation Team at the Community Health Centre in North Vancouver, BC is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide client- and family-centered care. You will identify and assess occupational performance issues, plan and implement goal-directed services, and maintain records.

Joining the team involves contributing to service organization, quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research and education while practicing under the BC CHCPBC registration.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy plus two years' recent related experience and/or CHCPBC registration.
  • Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess clients' occupational performance issues using evidence-based approaches.
  • Plan and implement goal-directed occupational therapy services and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Prepare and maintain client records and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Contribute to the organization and delivery of services, including meetings, research and education.

Job description

Come work as an Occupational Therapist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) on the Home Health Rehabilitation Team at the Community Health Centre in North Vancouver, BC.

Within the context of a client and family-centred care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and the vision and values of Vancouver Coastal Health, Coastal, provides occupational therapy services to clients to achieve quality client focused care and enable clients to develop healthy patterns of occupations. Duties include identifying and assessing client’s occupational performance issues utilizing an evidence-based approach, planning and implementing goal directed services, evaluating the effectiveness of the service, preparing and maintaining records. Contributes to the organization and delivery of occupational therapy services, and participates in departmental/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research, and education.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.

Education & Experience
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy plus two years' recent related experience and or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated clinical area.
  • Broad knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests and measures.
  • Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and clients both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independent and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for occupational therapy treatment.
  • Basic computer literacy.
