Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority ( Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, and under the administrative direction the Program Coordinator, and as part of a multidisciplinary team under the Clinical Director, responsible for providing group and individual interventions for patients/clients residing in the community or inpatient settings. The program delivers care to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness within the context of a psychosocial rehabilitation model. Programs assist patients/clients in the management of their illness and promote healthy community living.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated planning and instructional skills.
  • Ability to organize individual patient treatment programs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other professional disciplines as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Clinical understanding of affective disorders, schizophrenia and other serious psychiatric disorders and their treatment using a psychosocial rehabilitation model of care.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of community and facility contacts.
  • Ability to plan and deliver group treatment programs.
