Job summary

CMHA Kenora Branch is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join the Assertive Community Treatment Team. The role involves assessment, planning, development and implementation of treatment and rehabilitation services for clients with severe mental illness, within a multidisciplinary ACTT.

The successful candidate will be a fully registered health professional with knowledge of mental health treatment modalities, and will work both independently and as part of a team to deliver comprehensive

Responsibilities

  • Adherence to all CMHA Kenora Branch policies.
  • Maintain client and data files in accordance with policies.
  • Provide crisis intervention and advocacy.
  • Provide case management for clients and their families.
  • Assess activities of daily living and present findings within 3 months of admission.
  • Deliver occupational therapy interventions as per treatment plan.
  • Plan and participate in staff meetings and treatment plan meetings.
  • Plan group and individual leisure activities during evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with WHMIS and safety regulations.

Overview:

This member of the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) multidisciplinary team has training as a regulated health professional within occupational therapy and is a fully registered member of the regulating college or body of his or her profession. He or she has the clinical skill and experience to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment, rehabilitation, and support services to program clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses; and may have knowledge or experience in vocational rehabilitation and concurrent disorders treatment. This position reports directly to the ACT Team Leader.

Qualifications:
  • Registered or eligible for registration in a regulated health profession
  • Knowledge of mental health/illness and mental health difficulties and treatment modalities
  • Assessment, Treatment and Evaluation skills
  • Cultural Competence for diverse populations
  • Working knowledge of community resources and agencies
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Computer literacy and recording skills
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Criminal Records Check
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain same
Duties:
  • Adherence to all policies of the CMHA Kenora Branch
  • Assurance of confidentiality of all client, personnel and organizational records and information
  • Maintenance of client files and data files including updating of client information consistent with policies and procedures of the CMHA
  • Maintenance of professional qualifications
  • Participation in training and educational opportunities and application of new skills to practice
  • Perform shift management as per established policies and procedures
  • Provide crisis intervention
  • Advocacy
  • Provide case management for an assigned group of clients and their families.
  • Provide assessment of activities of daily living and present assessment findings within the first three months of client admission to the Assertive Community Treatment Team
  • Provide discipline-specific expertise regarding service to clients who are experiencing significant challenges in functioning related to looking after themselves (self-care), enjoying life (leisure) and being a contributing member of the community (productivity)
  • The Occupational Therapist may function as a fully integrated member of the team performing in a generalist role involved in the assessment and provision of supports
  • Supports the teams' professional development on issues related to occupational functioning and meaningful activity
  • Provide side by side individual support to assist clients in obtaining the necessities of daily living.
  • Provide appropriate therapeutic interventions as indicated in the treatment plan
  • Assessment of client needs and mental status and the development of appropriate treatment plans
  • Facilitate and monitor the implementation of client treatment plans
  • Participate in daily staff meetings and treatment plan meetings
  • Plan, structure and provide group and individual leisure time activities on evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Participate on specific Committees or task or work groups as assigned by the Supervisor
  • Provide a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Health and Safety Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHIMIS and Safe Work Procedures; including but not limited to Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plans
  • Ensure client safety and client safety activities are emphasized throughout orientation of new staff members
  • Support an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of mental health services
  • Participation in administrative and office functions
  • Responsible for self care
  • Other duties as directed
