Job summary

The CSSMB is seeking an occupational therapist for John F. Kennedy School in LaSalle.

You will support students in developing and sustaining functional autonomy to promote participation in activities and academic progress, within a collaborative multidisciplinary team. • Must be a member of OEQ and authorized to practice in Quebec.

• Experience with ASD or intellectual disabilities is an asset.

• Intervene with students facing declines in occupational performance to enable meaningful activities.

• Advise staff and parents on strategies to improve academic and social participation.

Being an occupational therapist means supporting students in the development, restoration, and maintenance of their functional autonomy to promote their participation in various activities and facilitate their academic progress.

On a daily basis, you will assess their functional skills, identify needs, and implement tailored intervention plans. You contribute to developing or maintaining their abilities, reducing situations of disability, and adapting their environment to promote optimal autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Support school teams in implementing universal practices that support educational success, within your area of expertise;
• Facilitate or co-facilitate classroom activities aimed at developing students' functional skills (e.g., graphomotor skills and writing, cutting, etc.);
• Intervene with a student or a group of students presenting a decline in their occupational performance, so they can carry out their meaningful activities satisfactorily and independently;
• Evaluate the performance of a student or a group of students considering the elements of the person (gross and fine motor skills, sensory integration, perceptual-cognitive skills), the environment (physical and social), and occupations (productivity, activities of daily living and domestic life);
• Establish an occupational therapy intervention plan taking into account the specificity of the school environment in choosing the interventions to prioritize;
• Advise school staff and parents regarding the implementation of individualized strategies and means aimed at optimizing the student's academic and social participation.

Requirements

• Be a member of the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec (OEQ);
• Be able to work within a multidisciplinary team;
• Demonstrate empathy and active listening;
• Have a very good sense of organization, rigor in follow-ups, initiative, and judgment;
• Exhibit professionalism and autonomy;
• Have very good communication skills;
• Have experience with clients with ASD or intellectual disabilities (an asset);
• Have a good knowledge of the education network (an asset);
• Proof of passing the French test SEL or CÉFRANC or TECFÉE or the enriched French exam of the CSSMB within three months of hiring at the latest.
