Job summary

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools seeks an experienced Occupational Therapist to diagnose and treat students with delays within an educational setting. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop plans supporting students in gaining, regaining or maintaining optimal functioning.

Responsibilities include assessing, consulting, treating and coordinating services, training teachers and support staff, and ensuring division procedures are followed.

Qualifications

  • Masters’ Degree in Occupational Therapy and related experience.
  • Experience in the Education sector is preferred.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools covers a geographical area that includes the regional communities of Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Spirit River. We are a team of 600 staff who provide quality teaching and learning experiences for approximately 5400 students ranging from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Position Overview

The job is responsible for diagnosing and treating students with a variety of delays as they gain, re-gain or maintain an optimum level of functioning in the educational setting. As part of a multi-disciplinary team of specialists, and under the direction of the Director of Inclusive Education, the OT provides expertise and develops plans in support of students requiring interventions.

Areas of Responsibility
  • Assess, consult, treat, follow up, and coordinate services for students so they can participate in everyday activities.
  • Provide training and education to teachers & support staff, and at times parents.
  • Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team
  • Implement Division procedures as required
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director ofInclusive Education
Ideal Candidate Qualities
  • Able to establish rapport with students who present with physical, emotional and learning disabilities who come from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of behavior management and positive reinforcement and the ability to utilize behavior management techniques according to established guidelines
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Masters’ Degree in Occupational Therapy plus extensive related experience, including experience in the Education sector.

  • Competitive salary ($76,294 - $115, 566 based on experience)
  • Reimbursement for moving expenses to relocate for the role (up to $5000)
