Job description

Posting: Occupational Therapist

Location(s): All Elementary Schools

Hours/Week: 16 Hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Term: Until end of June 2025; possibility to extend based on operational needs

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools requires a part-time Occupational Therapist. This role involves providing occupational therapy services to EEP - Grade 6 students within an inclusive educational environment.

The primary responsibilities include addressing and identifying occupational therapy needs using assessment tools that impact students' performance in early learning settings. Collaboration and communication with the school team and multi-disciplinary team are essential. Building capacity with teachers, educational staff, parents, and families is a primary focus.

Job Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Occupational Therapy or equivalent, with coursework in assessment and treatment of fine motor, visual motor, and perceptual difficulties
  • Registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapy (ACOT)
  • Two or more years of experience would be considered an asset
Job Responsibilities and Activities
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams and develop Individual Program Plans (IPP/ISP)
  • Administer, score, and interpret standardized occupational therapy assessments
  • Conduct occupational therapy within the context of classroom activities
  • Assist students in performing daily classroom routines
  • Develop strategies to integrate occupational therapy into daily classroom and school environments
  • Engage in professional development to enhance knowledge and skills
  • Model inclusive strategies for teachers, facilitators, parents, and educational assistants
  • Monitor student progress and advise on strategies to achieve curricular outcomes for grades 1-6
  • Coordinate and model programs such as Handwriting Without Tears in classrooms
  • Support the team in identifying children who qualify for Program Unit Funding

Develop and extend partnerships with the Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the community.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a vulnerable sector check and a criminal record check. FMCSD may contact past and present employers for references. All employees are expected to be computer literate, including proficiency with Google supports and MS Office.
