Community Options - A Society for Children and Families is dedicated to ensuring every child receives a great start in life. With over 45 years of experience, we provide quality childcare and inclusive support to children and families in the greater Edmonton area, fostering an environment where every child can reach their full potential.

Summary

At Community Options, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Based in Edmonton, we are a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to providing inclusive early learning, childcare, and developmental support for young children and their families. For over 45 years, we’ve championed inclusion, equity, and early intervention — ensuring that developmental delays, or other barriers never stand in the way of a child’s potential.

Through collaborative, child-centered programs and a passionate, multidisciplinary team, we help children build the foundational skills they need to succeed in life — in their own communities, alongside their peers.

Our Mission : Community Options supports the diverse needs of children and families through inclusive early childhood education programs and community initiatives.

Our Vision : Empowered families building inclusive communities.

About The Role

Community Options is looking for a passionate and dynamic Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our multidisciplinary team supporting children in inclusive early education programs. If you’re someone who loves working collaboratively, values inclusion, and thrives in a flexible work environment then this role is for you!

The OT will create goals for each Individual Program Plan (IPP), provide direct intervention, consult with families and staff, and supervise therapy assistants. This position is based in educational settings and includes travel between sites.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Working closely with a multidisciplinary team to build meaningful and personalized IPPs that support each child’s unique journey.
  • Partnering with Therapy Assistants to coach and guide them in implementing inclusive, child-centered strategies that help kids thrive in the classroom and beyond.
  • Using a variety of assessment tools, both standardized and non-standardized, to understand student strengths, identify areas for growth, and determine eligibility for essential support services and funding.
  • Crafting clear, thoughtful, and professional reports and referral letters that communicate progress, strategies, and recommendations to families and team members.
  • Adapting services to meet the evolving needs of children and their families with flexibility and a positive attitude.
  • Sharing knowledge through engaging in-services and workshops for parents and educational assistants to foster growth and confidence.
  • Bringing creativity, energy, and a high spirit to contribute positively to our inclusive workplace culture.

What We’re Looking For

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with ACOT.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insurance (mileage reimbursement provided).

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong belief in inclusion and diversity.
  • Adaptable, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to support children in active environments (kneeling, running, lifting up to 50 lbs.).

Other Requirements

  • Ability to wear PPE if required by site-specific safety protocols.
  • Clear Child Intervention Record Check and Police Record Check (vulnerable sector) within 6 months of hire.
  • Current certification in Standard Child Care First Aid & CPR (or willing to obtain within 90 days).
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
  • Comfortable with screen-based documentation and light administrative tasks.

Why Join Community Options?

You’ll be part of a dedicated team that believes in the power of early support, inclusion, and family-centered care. You’ll enjoy flexibility, professional development opportunities, and the chance to truly make a difference in the lives of children and families across Edmonton.
