The UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is seeking an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the division of General Obstetrics and Gynaecology, based at St. Paul’s Hospital (GYN) and BC Women’s Hospital (OB and ambulatory GYN). This position will have full obstetrical and outpatient Gynaecologic privileges at BC Women’s Hospital and full gynecologic privileges for complex GYN surgery at St. Paul’s Hospital. Active participation in the Obstetrics call rota for management of labor and delivery at BCWH, and the Gynecology call schedule at SPH are requirements.
We seek a candidate with an outstanding track record in clinical and surgical Obstetrics and Gynaecology who is committed to the educational and research mandates of these academic health authority campuses of the UBC Faculty of Medicine. Having advanced training or practical experience in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, high risk obstetrics, pelvic ultrasound, colposcopy or menopause is a strong asset.
As the successful applicant for this position, you will have certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and be eligible for licensure to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. This individual will need to be able to qualify for a position as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The incumbent will directly report to the Site Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at BC Women’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital.
As a clinical faculty member within the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching, research and service obligations at the discretion of the Division Head of GYN Specialties and General Obstetrics. These include participation in teaching of the undergraduate medical students and post-graduate residents, facilitation of clinical research and participation in quality improvement reviews. In addition, personal dedication to the Royal College’s focus on lifelong learning through professional development is expected.
This position is funded by fee for service through the Medical Services Plan of British Columbia, with stipends paid for clinical teaching.
St. Paul’s Hospital- Providence Health Care (PHC) is a major academic center for complex gynecologic surgery and pelvic floor reconstruction. The successful applicant will have ample opportunities for self-growth, research, and leadership in gynecologic surgery.
We are moving to the New St. Paul’s Hospital in Spring 2027. The new campus is the largest hospital redevelopment project in BC’s history. This new 11-story building with 546 beds and 16 operating rooms will be a state-of-the-art hospital and one of the most digitally advanced in Canada. In preparation for this move and expansion of gynecology services, we are developing multidisciplinary programs with urology, colorectal surgery, and radiology departments to elevate gynecologic surgery through education, research, innovation, and advocacy. The successful applicant will join a team of dedicated gynecologists to shape the way we deliver surgical care to female pelvic organs.
