Job description

Alberta Health Services, Central Zone, and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, invites applications for an Obstetrician & Gynecologist to establish a full-time practice in the community of Red Deer. This position is generally 100% clinical to start, with academic teaching. The expectation is to expand practice to include administration and/or research as practice grows.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have their primary residence within the community of Red Deer;
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
  • Establish and maintain full time community based practice within the community;
  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Obstetrics and Gynecology call schedule, as required.
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology;
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing independent outpatient practice or form an independent outpatient office of their own. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre (RDRHC) provides a comprehensive gamut of services including general, orthopedics, plastics, ENT, urology, gynecology, ophthalmology and obstetric surgeries. Cardiac, thoracic, and neurosurgery surgeries are not performed at RDRHC. They provide care for both adult and pediatric (minimum age of 1) patient populations with 12,500-12,750 surgical cases performed annually.

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application);
  • Have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC);
  • Recent and relevant experience in all areas of practice required;
  • Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently (moreOB) / Advances in Labour and Risk Management (ALARM);

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)
