Summary

Are you an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic looking for a new opportunity? We have an exciting opportunity for a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team at our NWT Construction Ltd location!

This role will work with our Yellowknife division during the construction season (approximately April/May until October/November) with the ability to transfer to our Edmonton location for the remainder of the year, providing steady, year-round employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel powered units.
  • Perform maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment, including but not limited to pavers, loaders, skid steers, graders, excavators, dozers, backhoes, and trucks.
  • Diagnose, service and repair various systems found on pieces of heavy equipment, such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, high voltage generators, propane powered equipment, and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments to fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches.
  • Ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company's Code of Ethics.
  • Examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
  • Other mechanic and shop duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Journeyman or Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician ticket required.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
Working Conditions
  • During the construction season, a schedule of 6 working days, 1 day off with up to 12 hours per day (weather dependent). Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.
  • Ability to work out-of-town and remote locations may be required. Accommodations and Live Out Allowance is applicable in most situations.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
