Job Summary
The Nutrition Coordinator supports student health and well-being by delivering evidence-based nutrition programs, services, and resources. Reporting to the Manager, Food Services and Nutrition Programs, this role collaborates with Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS), other UBC departments, and external partners to promote healthy eating, enhance food literacy, and improve equitable access to nutritious food.
Aligned with UBC Wellbeing and the UBC Strategic Plan, the Nutrition Coordinator plays a key role within UBCO Food Services. The primary responsibility is to manage the online menu information system, ensuring ingredients, allergens, and dietary labels are accurate and accessible for all menu items served by UBCO Food Services. Additional nutrition-related projects and programming are undertaken as time permits.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Manager, Food Services and Nutrition Programs and works closely with SHCS staff, residence students, Food Services diners, and various departments and faculties within the UBC community.
Work Performed
Menu and Allergen Management
- Serve as the subject matter expert and primary contact for the online menu information system.
- Maintain and update ingredient, allergen, and dietary label information for all UBCO Food Services locations.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure menu information is current, complete, and accurate.
- Review and analyze recipes and sub-ingredients for allergen identification and proper labeling.
- Recommend improvements to recipes or menus, pending managerial approval.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work with culinary teams to clarify recipe content and preparation methods.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to obtain product specification sheets.
- Liaise with inventory and purchasing teams to ensure accuracy of nutritional databases and recipe software.
- Support front-of-house staff with training on allergen protocols and menu information updates.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Communications on signage, labels, and educational materials.
Program Development and Education
- Plan and deliver nutrition education programs, workshops, and events.
- Develop content for digital and print materials, including posters, nutrition boards, and online resources.
- Assist with campus nutrition programming and community engagement initiatives.
- Participate in program evaluation, including analysis of menu system usage and comprehension.
Administrative and Technical Support
- Develop and maintain a procedures manual for the menu information and inventory systems.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for staff and diners using the online menu system.
- Analyze data and generate regular summary reports using system analytics.
- Use Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, reporting, and nutrient calculations.
Other Duties
- Participate in team meetings and complete follow-up tasks.
- Support other nutrition-related projects and initiatives as needed.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Inaccurate or incomplete nutritional information could adversely impact the health and safety of students, staff, and the broader UBC community. Errors in allergen labeling or dietary information may lead to health risks, legal implications, or reputational damage for the university.

This position reports directly to the Manager, Food Services and Nutrition Programs.
Supervision Given
This position does not supervise other staff.
Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Nutrition or a related field.
- Background in food and nutrition, preferably with experience in recipe and allergen data analysis.
- Familiarity with nutritional analysis software and food labeling systems.
- Strong understanding of current nutritional guidelines and dietary practices.
- Experience working with large-volume recipe conversions and ingredient measurements.
- Proficiency in using credible food databases (e.g., USDA, Canadian Nutrient File).
- Experience with creative project planning and implementation in a nutrition context.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and proactive in problem-solving.
- Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools; able to conduct supplemental nutrient analysis if needed.
- Ability to interpret nutrition facts panels and ensure accuracy.
