Job description

Nursing Unit Clerk, Emergency

BC Children's Hospital

Vancouver, BC

What you'll do
  • Transcribe physician orders for laboratory tests, medications, diagnostic tests, treatments, and surgical procedures onto appropriate forms and processes.
  • Set up, maintain, and complete patient charts; record information such as weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, and lab results; attach reports to charts after review by authorized staff.
  • Handle calls from PBCU staff regarding illness and absences; communicate information to the unit and relevant personnel; coordinate relief staff according to guidelines; maintain related records and submit timekeeping records to Payroll.
  • Perform receptionist duties: greet patients and visitors, answer queries, and direct them appropriately.
  • Carry out clerical tasks such as typing, answering phones, requisitioning supplies, and maintaining records like timesheets and census data.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring
Qualifications
  • Grade 12, knowledge of medical terminology, completion of a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program, and at least one year's recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of the historical and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples, including Indigenous-specific mandates and a commitment to eradicate racism and promote Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility.
  • Understanding of systemic racism and colonial impacts on Indigenous health disparities; commitment to anti-racism and equity; familiarity with related legislative and policy frameworks.

  • Understanding of Indigenous-specific and systemic racism; initiatives to promote a safe, inclusive environment informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Awareness of social, economic, political, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous Peoples; familiarity with anti-racism frameworks and legislative commitments.
