Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Reporting to the Manager, Resident Care or designate, and under general supervision, this position performs clerical duties related to the operation of a resident care area. Responsibilities include acting as a communication link for the Unit by transcribing and processing physicians' orders, communicating with other departments and hospitals, coordinating resident appointments, arranging tests and receiving results, receiving and directing visitors, and answering telephones. The role also involves assembling and maintaining resident charts, keyboarding, and data entry. All duties are performed in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, standards, and relevant regulations and legislation.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

Grade 12 education, knowledge of medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program, plus one year's recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
