Status: Regular Full-Time

Reporting Relationship
The Nursing Supervisor will work under the direction of the Health Services Department Manager.

Position Summary
The Nursing Supervisor provides leadership, clinical guidance, and administrative oversight for the nursing and community health programs at M’Chigeeng Health Services. This role supports a multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality, culturally safe care and promotes community health through strategic planning, collaboration, advocacy, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Nursing Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring program efficiency, staff development, and the implementation of health and safety measures.

Essential Functions
Staff Leadership & Clinical Supervision:

  • Provide leadership and clinical supervision to homecare nurses, community health nurses, Healthy Babies Healthy Children program, diabetes program, and the Community Health Representative (CHR).
  • Conduct regular check-ins, debriefs, and performance evaluations with team members, including goal setting and professional development planning.
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate documentation is completed by all team members in a timely manner.
  • Promote team members’ strengths and support areas for improvement through mentorship and coaching.
  • Monitor caseloads at regular and frequent intervals to ensure equal distribution as case assignment is competed in a timely manner.

Program & Strategic Planning:

  • Lead annual strategic planning and assist staff with developing work plans aligned with department objectives, community objectives and employee goals.
  • Coordinate and lead nursing huddles, staff meetings, and partner collaboration sessions including preparation of agendas and meeting minutes.

Reporting & Budget Management:

  • Oversee the preparation and timely submission of key reports (CBRT, Year End, Quarterly, and Anishnabek Nation funding reports).
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to manage budgets and funding allocations.

Policy & Procedure Development:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain nursing medical directives, policies, and procedures that meet regulatory standards and community health priorities.

Communication & Partnerships:

  • Serve as a liaison and advocate with community stakeholders and partners including Noojmowin Teg, Central Manitoulin Family Health Team, Manitoulin Health Centre, Indigenous Services Canada, and Ontario Health at Home.

Client Coordination:

  • Conduct referral triage, nurse assignment, and regular caseload reviews to ensure efficient service delivery and equitable distribution of care.

Administrative Oversight:

  • Manage nursing schedules, approve timesheets, and coordinate coverage as required.
  • Supervise and coordinate student placements, including NOSM learners, accommodations, clinical and cultural activities.

Program Development:

  • Act as the nurse lead for the wellness recovery program, including the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and successful reintegration of addiction medicine services.

Proposal & Funding Development:

  • Collaborate with the nursing team to develop and submit funding proposals and work plans.

Qualifications and Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN or RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, with 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role
Strong understanding of community health nursing, Indigenous health frameworks, and culturally safe care
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, report writing, and budget management
Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and culturally diverse environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and health information systems
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Current CPR and First Aid certification
