The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Client Service Manager, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is an unregulated member of the interprofessional healthcare team who provides ongoing client care. The HCA observes, monitors, and reports on client status and condition, including changes in physical and emotional states. The HCA ensures that any changes are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

This position involves administering prescribed medications accurately according to policies and procedures. The HCA maintains professional and ethical standards at all times, in line with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care, and policies. Performs other related duties as required.

Program Summary

Complex Care is for frail seniors requiring an interdisciplinary team to maintain and improve quality of life in safe, comfortable, and supportive environments. Carewest offers a mix of secured and unsecured units.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Graduation from Grade 12 and completion of an Alberta Government-recognized Health Care Aide program
  • Effective reading, writing, and communication skills in English
  • Physical ability to manage frequent lifting, transferring, and repositioning of clients
  • Active and current registration in the Alberta HCA Directory
  • Related healthcare experience is an asset; program-specific training/experience is an asset
