Job summary

Bylands Nurseries Ltd in British Columbia is a growing plant producer seeking a Nursery Worker to prune, plant, transplant, and tend a diverse range of plants outdoors. You will work up to six days per week, with longer hours during peak seasons, in all weather conditions.

You should be comfortable bending, reaching and lifting, and may learn Latin plant names while collaborating with a team and possibly Spanish-speaking colleagues.

Qualifications

• Working with plants improves mood and mental health.
• Full-time hours, up to 6 days per week with peak-season overtime.
• Work outdoors in hot, cold, wet and windy weather.
• Frequent bending, reaching, heavy lifting and walking, with jeans and safety vest as uniform.
• Knowledge of Latin plant names and ability to work with coworkers from diverse backgrounds.
• Basic Spanish can give you a head start; training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Prune trees, shrubs and plants.
• Mix and prepare soils.
• Plant bulbs and seeds; pot and re-pot plants.
• Transplant seedlings or rooted cuttings.
• Assist in grafting activities.
• Dig up wrapping root-balls of trees and shrubs.
• Water and tend to plants, lawns, and gardens.
• Assist in labeling, moving and loading plants.
• Spray trees, shrubs, flowers and plants to prevent disease and pests.
• Operate farm equipment such as tractors, sprayers, forklifts and loaders.

Job Description

Our Nursery Workers are accountable for a variety of functions, including tasks like:

• Prune trees, shrubs, and plants
• Mix and prepare soils
• Plant bulbs and seeds; Pot and re-pot plants
• Transplant seedlings or rooted cuttings
• Assist in grafting activities
• Dig up wrapping root-balls of trees and shrubs
• Water and tend to plants, lawns and/or gardens
• Assist in labeling, moving and loading plants.
• Spray trees, shrubs, flowers and plants to prevent disease and pests.
• Use of farm equipment such as tractor, sprayer, forklift, loader and various hand-tools.
