Overview

Job Title: Nurse Technician

Location: High Point, NC - Cardiac Cath Lab Pre/Post Unit

Shift: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm

Job Summary: Performs designated basic patient care, related nursing tasks, and clerical functions related to requisitioning/charging supplies/services, preparing/maintaining unit records/patient charts, receiving/relaying communications to provide optimal/quality care consistent with Hospital mission and Nursing philosophy, goals, standards, and bylaws. Serves as unit receptionist in enhancing the image of High Point Medical Center. Provides general information for patients, families, visitors, and other employees. Assists Licensed Nurse in the implementation of nursing care.

Education Degree/Diploma: High School Diploma or GED General Studies Required* and successful completion of a North Carolina Board of Nursing Aide I approved training program/competency evaluation required.

Certifications, Licensures and Registrations: Credential Primary Source Verification Required/Preferred Nurse Aide I Registration Division of Facility Services Nurse Aide I Registry. BLS required per policy guidelines.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Successful completion of General Hospital Orientation and Unit Secretary Training Program provided by TCU.
  • Demonstration of competency in the Nursing Assistant/Clerical/Unit Receptionist functions as determined by TCU staff, Unit Secretary Preceptor, and Unit Coordinator on assigned unit.
  • Ability to demonstrate verbal and written communication skills and comprehend English required.
  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize and organize workload, and maintain emotional stability required.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations required.

Job Specific Duties

Patient Observation

  • Monitor and report patient’s appearance, behavior, and response to care.
  • Observe and report abnormalities in urine, stool, drainage, and skin conditions.
  • Ensure IV therapy site integrity and report complications.
  • Check patient care equipment for proper function and report malfunctions.

Patient Care

  • Maintain a safe, organized patient environment.
  • Assist with elimination activities and provide hygiene care.
  • Perform therapeutic measures such as enemas, perineal/catheter care, and glucometer checks.
  • Turn and reposition bedfast/incontinent patients every two hours.
  • Provide 1:1 patient monitoring as needed.

Patient Information & Documentation

  • Record and report vital signs, weight, fluid intake/output, and patient observations.
  • Collect specimens (urine, stool, sputum).

Patient Dietary Assistance

  • Prepare and assist with meals, documenting intake.
  • Provide fresh water, juices, and dietary supplies.

Patient Transfer/Discharge

  • Assist with admission, transfer, discharge, and personal belongings management.
  • Help with ambulation and use patient lifts.

Patient Environment

  • Maintain clean patient areas, change linens, and clean equipment.

Patient Records

  • Maintain and update patient charts, forms, and documentation.
  • Assist with order entry and discharge paperwork.

Call Lights & Communication

  • Answer call lights promptly and relay messages accurately.
  • Notify departments of patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Maintain phone etiquette and direct physician calls to nurses.

Customer Focus

  • Provide excellent patient care, communication, and professionalism.
  • Assist patients with directions and escorting.

Supplies & Equipment

  • Manage unit supplies and charge for special procedures.

Teamwork & Support

  • Assist in pre/post-operative procedures, patient flow, and orientation of new staff.
  • Support co-workers and complete assigned unit tasks.

Professionalism

  • Maintain a professional working relationship and adhere to department rules.

Physical & Behavioral Requirements

  • Physical Demands: Lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, and standing.
  • Sensory Requirements: Visual, auditory, tactile, and olfactory senses required.
  • Stress Management: Ability to work in a high-stress environment.
