Hemodialysis Thunder Bay

It is a condition of this posting that your home unit can accommodate your temporary absence in the event you are successful.

The Nurse Practitioner works within the framework of nursing as a member of the interprofessional healthcare team to provide care to patients of the Renal Service focusing on the hemodialysis population. The role primarily involves clinical practice requiring advanced clinical assessment, clinical reasoning, pharmacology, and other related skills.

The Nurse Practitioner will also provide leadership to support the incorporation of evidence-based, interdisciplinary care of the hemodialysis patient throughout the organization.

The Nurse Practitioner reports primarily to the Director of the Regional Renal Services with a matrix reporting relationship to the Chief Nursing Officer, and accountability to the Chief of Nephrology. Care is provided within the scope of an RN (EC) and as outlined in the Renal Service Nurse Practitioner collaborative practice agreement. Any care outside of the Nurse Practitioner's legislated scope will be authorized through medical directives and direct orders. Nephrologists will partner with the Nurse Practitioner routinely, providing direction related to the development, implementation, and amendment of patient care plans. Practice addresses the five domains of Advanced Practice Nursing : Clinical Practice, Collaboration, Research, Leadership, and Change Agent. The percentage of time dedicated to each domain is variable, based on program needs and will evolve over time.

Qualifications :

  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Adult or Primary Care
  • Membership in NPAO is required
  • Successful completion of Graduate Studies
  • Minimum 3 years recent Nurse Practitioner experience in an acute care setting within the past 5 years
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the Hospital's Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrated commitment to Patient and Family Centred Care principles
  • Clinical expertise in chronic kidney disease management
  • Experience in adult education, program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interprofessional team
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • High initiative and self-direction
  • Knowledge of regional issues related to chronic kidney disease care

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as GroupWise, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel

Salary Range : $65,210 to $70,750
