Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Team Manager, as part of the multidisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP):
- Applies advanced nursing and medical theory to the provision of clinical care, autonomously ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacologic agents, and performing minor invasive procedures.
- Contributes to knowledge, development, and involvement in advancing the nursing profession through current/relevant nursing and medical theory.
- Integrates medical knowledge and advanced nursing knowledge into clinical practice.
- Demonstrates competence to practice autonomously in strategies to promote health and prevent illness, and is proficient in planning, implementing, and evaluating complex care, including teaching others.
- Provides problem-solving among staff, between staff and patients/residents/clients, and with physicians and the multidisciplinary team.
- Utilizes skills in consultation, collaboration, and systems management to provide effective care.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical nursing experience, preferably in primary care.
- Experience working with clients with mental health and/or addictions is an asset.
- Experience working across sectors and linking between programs/organizations is an asset.
- Two years of practice in the extended practice role in community health and primary care is an asset.
- Demonstrated clinical competence in delivering primary care services to diverse client groups.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Masters of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Stream, or equivalent educational preparation approved by the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Nurse practitioners must be competent to provide extended practice nursing care, endorsed in the practice setting, and within the scope defined by CRNM.
- Active participation in professional associations (e.g., ARNM) is preferred.
- Maintain and provide proof of active registration on the RN Extended Practice (EP) Register of the CRNM.
Qualifications and Skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Competence in an Indigenous language and knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values is an asset.
- Proficiency with computers, software, and healthcare technology systems.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and function as part of a healthcare team.
- Leadership skills and adaptability to changing situations.
- Ability to work effectively in stressful environments and demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Skills in group facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Compliance with relevant standards, acts, and policies including the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice, Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics, and others listed.
