The Liver Transplantation Program at Vancouver General Hospital is a dynamic multidisciplinary team consisting of Physicians, Nurse Coordinators, Psychologists, Pharmacists, Addiction Specialists, and Dieticians. It is one of the most rewarding fields in medicine where the team takes care of patients whose lives are transformed from living with liver failure to living with a new, functioning liver.
The Nurse Practitioner will be an integral part of the team, taking care of inpatients who have undergone liver transplantation, taking an active part in evaluating patients for liver transplantation, and following the patients long term in the outpatient setting. To help with transitioning into the role, a detailed training plan will be offered. FTE may be negotiable.
This is a Post-Graduate Advanced Education (PGAE) program opportunity—a six-month initiative designed to attract, train, inspire, and retain outstanding acute care Nurse Practitioners who provide exemplary care to a diverse patient population. The program features structured onboarding with supervised clinical training across a range of acute care specialties. Didactic sessions are delivered in an interdisciplinary setting and focus on core competencies in acute care, clinical reasoning, simulation, work-life balance, and quality improvement. Throughout the program, NP participants will receive regular follow-up and dedicated support from an Acute Care NP Lead to ensure a smooth and successful transition into their role. A minimum 18-month return-of-service commitment is required upon completion of the PGAE program. Participants are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to their clinical position and to the specialty, with the intention of contributing as subject matter experts to the growth and sustainability of future PGAE programs.
