Job summary

Alberta Health Services is offering in-person locum Nurse Practitioner opportunities across Alberta emergency departments, including rural locations. You will provide full-scope NP care in acute settings, with emphasis on leadership and interprofessional collaboration to ensure safe, seamless care delivery.

Requirements include a Master's degree and active CRNA registration, plus ACLS/PALS. Unionized roles with flexible shifts and travel support are available; accommodation may be provided.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree.
  • Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Minimum of 3 years of Nurse Practitioner clinical experience in an acute care setting (within the last 5 years).
  • Current ACLS and PALS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full scope NP care across the lifespan, including assessment, diagnosis, tests, prescriptions and procedures.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional teams to ensure safe, coordinated care in emergency settings.
  • Demonstrate leadership in trauma-informed, patient-centered care across rural and urban sites.

We have exciting in-person locum opportunities available across various emergency departments, including rural locations within Alberta for Nurse Practitioners! Be part of a vital initiative to provide temporary coverage within an emergency department as a full-scope NP. Prior experience in acute care and emergency care is essential as you will play a crucial role in addressing the healthcare needs of Albertans. Coverage of rural emergencies frequently includes coverage of medical inpatient units and affiliated long term care beds. On-call peer support is available whenever you need it. We are seeking NPs who possess strong leadership skills and excel in interprofessional collaboration ensuring safe, seamless coordination approach to care delivery. This position offers additional incentives, including a premium payment per hour for hours worked, reimbursement for travel costs, a per diem allowance, meal allowance and accommodation provided by AHS. Description:

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of Nurse Practitioner clinical experience in an acute care setting (within the last 5 years). Current ACLS and PALS certification. Evidence to practice both independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to provide care across the lifespan. Practices trauma-informed, patient centered care approach.

Preferred Qualifications:

Emergency Nurse Practitioner certification (ENP) or equivalent. Emergency Medicine education: Adult EM Bootcamp/Hippo Education or equivalent i.e. General Emergency Medicine Skills - GEMS. Pediatric experience. Previous rural and/or emergency nursing experience. Self-directed with strong teamwork and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Familiarity with Connect Care is beneficial.
