Key Responsibilities
  • Provides professional nursing care and community health services to clients.
  • Develops, facilitates, implements and modifies client and family education/teaching based on client needs.
  • Conducts health surveillance and preventative activities that may improve the health of the population.
  • Provides expert and specialized knowledge of primary health care related to nursing in Nunavut.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Graduate Level Advanced Nursing Practice degree, Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice, or Nurse Practitioner–Primary Health Care Diploma; or completion of a Nurse Practitioner competency challenge process through a regulatory‑licensing body.
  • Eligible to register as an NP with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN).
  • Preferred two to five years NP experience; new NP graduates with five years recent RN experience in acute care setting are also considered.
  • Preferable certifications: Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), ALARM, STABLE, fetal monitoring, pelvic examination, labour and delivery experience with advanced obstetrical training.
Preferred Certifications (to be completed within first 12 months)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Fetal monitoring
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Care (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • ALARM/ESW/FHS
  • Non‑violent Crisis Intervention
  • ASIST or Mental Health First Aid

Special Requirements
  • Highly Sensitive Position – satisfactory Criminal Record Check and clear Vulnerable Sector Check required.
  • Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French; ability to communicate in more than one official language is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience in a northern cross‑cultural environment are considered assets.

Benefits
  • Tier One allowance: $10 per hour premium for full‑time, permanent, and job share employees in Kinngait, Grise Fiord, Naujaat, Cambridge Bay, Kugaaruk, Taloyoak, Arctic Bay, Clyde River, Sanirajak, Iqaluit, Kimmirut, Qikiqtarjuaq, Resolute Bay.
  • Tier Two allowance: $15 per hour premium for same categories in Arviat, Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Gjoa Haven, Coral Harbour, Igloolik, Kugluktuk, Pangnirtung, Pond Inlet, Rankin Inlet, Sanikiluaq, Whale Cove.
Prioritization
  • Priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy.
  • Government of Nunavut employees in a probationary period must provide written authorization from the deputy head of their department. The authorization must accompany the application.
  • Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify candidates; assessment is based on duties of the position. This is a requirement for positions requiring a satisfactory criminal record or vulnerable sector check.
Additional Information

The onus is on candidates with foreign post‑secondary credentials to have their credentials assessed through a recognized Canadian education institution. Failure to do so may result in rejection of their application.
