A leading healthcare provider is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join their Inpatient Medical Services Team at the West 5th Campus. The NP will collaborate with a team to deliver comprehensive medical care for inpatients, leveraging advanced nursing knowledge and ensuring high standards of practice. Key qualifications include a Master's Degree in Nursing and several years of clinical experience, particularly in mental health and addiction care.
UNIT PROFILE:
The Inpatient Medical Services Team provides comprehensive acute and chronic medical care for all inpatients at the West 5th Campus in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
The successful applicant will work cohesively on a team of other nurse practitioners completing patient health histories and physical examinations, while providing acute and chronic disease management throughout the course of the patient’s admission.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an autonomous health care provider who works in collaboration with physicians, other members of the interdisciplinary team and patients/families to provide evidence-informed and integrated medical care to the Mental Health and Addiction Program inpatients. The NP's practice is grounded in professional, ethical and legal standards using advanced nursing knowledge, skill, experience, clinical reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking. The NP builds and expands on established RN competencies with an expanded scope of practice based on legislative authority to autonomously perform the controlled acts. The NP's fundamental competencies include clinical practice, leadership, research, consultation, collaboration and referral. All duties and responsibilities of the NP will follow the Standards of Practice developed by the College of Nurses of Ontario, the RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, and will be consistent with the Standards of Behavior and policies set by St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. The NP will report jointly to the Nurse Manager, Medical Services and the Director of Nursing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Registered Nurse-Extended Class (RN-EC) , with specialty certificate as NP-Primary Health Care (NP-PHC) or Adult, is required.
-Masters Degree in Nursing required.
-Proof of successful completion of controlled substances education required
-Faculty appointment or eligibility for appointment with a School of Nursing in an academic institution.
-Demonstrated clinical expertise and experience working with patients experiencing mental illness and/or addiction is an asset
-RNAO, NPAO, CNA membership preferred.
-CNA certificate in mental or equivalent in mental health preferred
-Current BCLS certification required.
-At least three (3) years recent demonstrated experience as an Nurse Practitioner
-Three (3) years recent clinical nursing experience and clinical expertise in acute care or primary care required.
-Demonstrated self-directed decision making and problem solving skills required.
-Demonstrated knowledge of legislative and ethical responsibilities relating to scope of practice and healthcare required.
-Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective collegial relationships and teamwork required.
-Demonstrated effective conflict management/resolution skills required.
-Demonstrated scholarly inquiry, knowledge translation, and effective research skills required.
-Demonstrated proficient computers skills (ie Clinical Connect, MS Office, EPIC, etc.) required.
-Demonstrated data management skills for evaluation, interpretation and process change required.
-Demonstrated good attendance record required.
