POSITION SUMMARY:
The NP works autonomously and in collaboration with physicians, other members of the inter-professional team, and patients/families to provide evidence-informed, patient/family-centered care grounded in professional, ethical, and legal standards. The NP integrates advanced nursing practice, health management, health promotion, disease/injury prevention, and relevant biomedical and psychosocial theories to deliver comprehensive care. NP practice involves complex competencies, reflecting highly developed critical thinking, clinical experience, and advanced education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters in Nursing or relevant healthcare field
- Proof of completion of controlled substances education
- Completion of NP-Adult Diploma program at an accredited university
- Current registration in RN(EC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum of 5 years of general nursing clinical experience
- Successful completion of CNO-approved course for prescribing controlled substances
- Experience with hematology or related services preferred
- RNAO membership
- CNA certification in clinical specialty preferred
- University faculty appointment or eligibility
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments and physical examinations, identifying normal and abnormal findings. Exercise clinical reasoning and ensure follow-up as needed.
- Formulate differential diagnoses, order and interpret investigations, and follow up on patients with thromboembolic disease or suspected thromboembolism.
- Prescribe pharmacotherapy within scope, counsel clients on treatments, side effects, interactions, and adherence.
- Manage acute and chronic illnesses holistically, including emergent and life-threatening situations.
- Perform invasive and non-invasive procedures for disease management and prevention.
- Consult or refer to other healthcare professionals when client needs exceed NP scope or competencies.
- Demonstrate clinical leadership through knowledge translation, education, mentorship, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in evidence-based practice, research, and implementation of innovations to enhance patient care.
- Monitor population health trends to inform program development and health promotion strategies.
- Apply principles of resource allocation and cost-effectiveness in practice.
- Collaborate with physicians to optimize clinic utilization, triage referrals, and coordinate care.
