Job Description

Sinai Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist (NP-CNS) to support our Ambulatory IBD Department at Mount Sinai Hospital. This role reports to the Senior Clinical Program Director for Surgical Services.

The NP-CNS will have a specialty focus, demonstrating autonomy and expert skill in managing ambulatory IBD patients. Responsibilities include providing nursing leadership, developing standards, and participating in quality initiatives. The role includes autonomous diagnosis, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, and performing procedures within the legislated scope of practice.

About the IBD Centre

The Sinai Health IBD Centre of Excellence offers interdisciplinary care, including inpatient and outpatient services, with a team of gastroenterologists, surgeons, nurses, and other health professionals. It manages approximately 2000 IBD patients annually, with extensive research and training programs.

Responsibilities
  • Support departmental goals and objectives
  • Lead in advanced nursing practice and manage an independent caseload
  • Develop and coordinate comprehensive care plans
  • Evaluate and adapt care plans as needed
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in policy, procedure, and program development
  • Manage an urgent care clinic for patients with urgent needs
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Master's degree in nursing from a CNO-accredited institution
  • Current registration as Nurse Practitioner (Extended Class) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 5-10 years’ recent experience in assessment and management of IBD
  • Membership in RNAO and relevant organizations
  • Completion of CNO-approved education on Controlled Drugs and Substances
  • Current BCLS certification

Preferred:

  • Eligibility for cross-appointment to an academic institution
