Job description

Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin (UW) Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Clinical Trials Program, within Dr. Cynthia Carlsson's lab, is a member site of the national Alzheimer's Clinical Trials Consortium (ACTC). The program conducts prevention and treatment clinical trials research in Alzheimer's and other dementias. It is committed to partnering with communities to ensure high-risk populations are represented. The research nurse practitioner (NP) plays an integral role in the AD Clinical Trials Program, serving as a clinical expert within the research team. The NP assists the Principal Investigator (PI), co-investigators, and clinical research coordinators with study operations, adhering to research protocols and UW Madison policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Clinical Assessments and Procedures: Perform physical and neurological exams, lumbar punctures, interpret research blood and cerebrospinal fluid test results, cognitive testing, electrocardiograms, evaluate adverse events, assess decision-making capacity, and return research results to participants.
  2. Participant Interaction and Recruitment: Assist in recruitment efforts, attend outreach events, and communicate with supporting organizations about Alzheimer's research.
  3. Coordination and Communication: Collaborate with research departments, IRBs, pharmaceutical centers, and study personnel for study start-up, maintenance, and closure.
  4. Participant Support and Education: Provide guidance to participants and their support systems on managing conditions related to research participation.
  5. Work Location: Primarily at University Hospital, with potential work at other sites in Madison.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited nursing school.
  • Certification or eligibility to obtain certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Wisconsin.
  • RN licensure in Wisconsin.
  • Experience with geriatric patients, cognitive impairment, dementia, and high-risk populations is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, providing leadership and supervision.
Additional Details:
  • Part-time position (50-70%), primarily onsite.
  • Salary range: $100,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience.
  • Ongoing/renewable appointment.
  • Benefits include vacation, holidays, insurance, and retirement plans.
  • Position requires work authorization in the U.S. and passing a caregiver background check.
