Purpose :
The Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is seeking a self-directed, results-oriented nursing leader with experience developing the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role into a healthcare program. The NP will provide innovative clinical leadership for the inter-professional team to improve Addictions treatment & care pathways. Proven experience as an NP with positive collaborations with physicians, staff, and system partners is essential.
Duties :
- Participate and collaborate with healthcare providers in patient care.
- Assess patients through history and physical exams to make diagnoses.
- Initiate treatment orders, medications, and diagnostics in collaboration with physicians and healthcare teams.
- Develop medical treatment plans for patients, which may be executed by other care providers.
- Create pathways to addiction and mental health services, including Primary Care, as part of discharge planning.
- Evaluate outcomes based on clinical judgment and patient improvements.
- Dictate discharge summaries detailing diagnosis, treatment, and instructions.
- Contribute to the development of order sets, clinical pathways, or medical directives.
- Refer patients to other care providers as appropriate.
- Serve as a consultant and resource to the healthcare team and community as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Current Certificate of Registration as RN (EC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Enrolled in the Opioid Use Disorder Treatment (OUDT) course through CAMH.
- Enrolled in Certification with UBC’s Addiction Care & Treatment Certificate.
- Enrolled in Sublocade Certification.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Current certification in Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within the past 2 years.
Experience :
- Leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating a nurse practitioner-led program.
Skills & Abilities :
- Practice autonomously within the full scope of NP practice as per CNO standards and legislation.
- Follow the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Core Competency Framework.
- Operate within legislative and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, focusing on mental health and addictions.
- Communicate findings and diagnoses effectively.
- Provide evidence-based treatments for mental health and addiction disorders.
- Understand social determinants of health and trauma-informed care.
- Offer biopsychosocial support for individuals experiencing intoxication or withdrawal.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community services.
- Manage acute and chronic illnesses holistically.
- Counsel clients on harm reduction, treatment, and health maintenance strategies.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with team members and community agencies.
- Lead service development, including standards, policies, and protocols.
- Mentor and supervise nursing and healthcare staff.
- Participate in program evaluation and community health trend analysis.
- Act as a preceptor and role model for colleagues.
- Uphold hospital mission, values, and standards of performance.
