Job description

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of patients/clients/residents, including diagnosing diseases, disorders, and conditions. The Nurse Practitioner initiates treatment, including health care management, therapeutic interventions, and prescribing medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards, limits, conditions, and employer policies and procedures. They provide professional guidance to other health professionals and practice autonomously and interdependently within an interdisciplinary health care team, making referrals to specialists as appropriate.

The position involves collaborating with patients/clients/residents and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that impact health at individual and community levels. The Nurse Practitioner develops and implements population-based, evidence-informed strategies to improve health and participates in policy-making activities influencing health services and practices. The role also includes participating in peer review and self-assessment to evaluate service outcomes at various levels.

Northern Health seeks a Nurse Practitioner to join a primary care team serving the Coast Tsimshian communities of Metlakatla, Kitkatla, Hartley Bay, and Lax Kw'Alaams. These communities are accessible only by ferry or air, with transportation challenges that are often unpredictable.

Experience & Salary Target Rate for 2024-2025:

  • New Grad: $145,739
  • One Year: $153,026
  • Two Years: $160,313
Qualifications and Competencies
Education and Experience
  • Completion of BCCNM-approved Master's degree nurse practitioner program.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

  • Effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and health teams regarding health findings, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.
  • Ability to collaborate, consult, and refer to physicians and other health professionals as appropriate.

  • Assessment of population health trends and planning of strategies for prevention and health promotion.
  • Implementation and evaluation of planned changes.
