Position Overview

Calian is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our clinical team working at CFB Petawawa. The Nurse Practitioner functions as an essential member of the healthcare team in providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary, collaborative primary health care services to Canadian Armed Forces members. These services include primary care, occupational, minor trauma care, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, rehabilitation, and support services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive health assessments using sound clinical judgment, diagnostic and therapeutic skills.
  • Practice autonomously and are solely accountable for their actions while practicing.
  • Consult with physicians or other healthcare professionals when the client's condition requires care beyond the scope of NP practice.
  • Make appropriate medical employment limitation recommendations in accordance with the Surgeon General’s guidelines.
  • Prescribe medications and order x-rays, ultrasounds, and lab tests following the Standards of Practice for RNs in the Extended Class.
  • Implement strategies to promote health and prevent illness with individuals, families, or groups.
  • Collaborate on managing members with stable chronic illnesses (such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and asthma) through a predetermined referral process.
  • Refer patients to other providers or programs according to their needs.

Qualifications

  • Licensed and in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Ontario.
  • Basic Life Support for Health Providers or CPR / AED Level C.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
