Island Health is seeking a dedicated Mental Health & Substance Use Nurse for its multidisciplinary Intensive Case Management Team. The role involves providing essential mental health and addiction services, ensuring client rehabilitation through assessment and tailored treatment. Under the general direction of the team leader or designate, the Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Nurse serves in a multidisciplinary Intensive Case Management Team. Services are primarily provided in community settings but may also occur in facility settings as required. The nurse provides core mental health and addiction services, including assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and support for clients, in partnership with clients, families, and community health resources. Based on an identified client rehabilitation plan, the nurse develops, plans, implements, and maintains a full range of clinical services and client-centered rehabilitation programs.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training, and ExperienceGraduation from a recognized nursing program plus a minimum of two years of adult or child/youth MHSU nursing experience. At least six months of experience supporting clients with substance use issues in a community setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or RPN. Current CPR certification is required.
Knowledge of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) model, assessment and treatment methodologies, and case management; including motivational interviewing. Knowledge of relevant legislation. Familiarity with community MHSU programs, services, resources, and promotion. Understanding of other health disciplines, including primary care physicians, and their role in client care.
