Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $49.20/Hr. - CAD $63.47/Hr.

Summary

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager and Practice Consultant, and receiving work direction from the Practice Consultant and Education Strategist, the Licensed Practical Nurse Educator (LPNE) supports the delivery of high-quality, patient and family-centred care by serving as a clinical education resource to nursing staff. The LPNE plays a vital role in promoting best practices, mentoring staff, and enhancing clinical competencies through structured and informal education strategies. This role helps foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the care team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as a visible and accessible clinical resource to support nursing staff across designated care areas, promoting patient and family-centred care based on principles of respect, dignity, collaboration, participation, and information sharing.
  • Develops, delivers, and evaluates a variety of formal and informal education programs tailored to individual and team needs, including learning plans, workshops, and clinical teaching sessions.
  • Collaborates with the Practice Consultant, Education Strategist, and other clinical leaders to assess staff development needs and provide timely education and mentorship.
  • Applies specialized theory and nursing knowledge to design learning experiences that enhance clinical competence and support safe, evidence-informed care.
  • Supports continuous quality improvement by identifying educational gaps, proposing solutions, and participating in initiatives to improve clinical practice.
  • Integrates the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) Nursing Informatics Entry-to-Practice Competencies into education plans and professional practice.

What You Bring

Education:

  • Current registration with BCCNM as a practicing RN.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent nursing experience in the relevant clinical area.
  • At least 1 year of experience or training in teaching, mentoring, leadership, or education program development.
  • Educator Pathway education preferred.
  • Additional qualifications may apply depending on the clinical area.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to teach, coach, and support clinical staff.
  • Skilled in CPR appropriate to the clinical setting.
  • Experience identifying learning needs and developing education plans.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and resource development.
  • Strong group facilitation and team collaboration skills.
  • Effective communicator with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Organized, self-directed, and physically able to perform duties.
  • Competent with computers and related equipment.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Assess learning needs: Identifies individual and team learning needs through observation, discussion, and analysis of clinical indicators and staff development data.
  • Design and deliver education: Plans, implements, and evaluates formal and informal learning programs to support clinical competence, practice changes, and professional growth.
  • Support staff development: Coaches and mentors staff and preceptors through clinical education, individualized growth plans, and ongoing feedback.
  • Act as a clinical resource: Provides hands-on support, monitors learning progress, and adjusts education strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Promote evidence-based practice: Ensures content is aligned with current best practices and collaborates with peers to maintain up-to-date resources and materials.
  • Participate in student education: Assists with student placements and supports preceptor-student assignments in alignment with unit training programs.
  • Foster ethical and collaborative practice: Guides staff through ethical dilemmas and team conflicts, offering educational and communication support.
  • Contribute to quality and research: Participates in quality improvement, safety audits, and research initiatives, applying findings to enhance care and education.
  • Support hospital-wide initiatives: Engages in hospital committees, interprofessional teaching, and education planning across the organization.
  • Integrate informatics: Applies CASN Nursing Informatics Competencies to enhance care delivery and education using technology.
  • Maintain documentation and provide input: Keeps records of education activities, supports performance planning, and advises on resource needs.
  • Other duties as required: to support excellence in clinical education and patient care.
