Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

The successful applicant may be eligible for an annual full-time incentive of up to $2,000 each year until 2025 as per MOU #31 of the current MNU collective agreement.

Position Overview

The Shared Health Mental Health and Addictions Early Response Services (MHAERS) is an interdisciplinary team, consisting of a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, a Nurse Clinician, a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Clinician, a Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Addiction Clinical Specialist, a Mental Health and Addiction Educators, an Indigenous Specialist and an Administrative Assistant, who provide timely access to mental health and addiction services for children and youth in schools.

The Nurse Clinician, as a part of the interdisciplinary team, will provide first-line MHA assessment, MHA early interventions, referrals to primary care/ specialized services and step-down follow-up (including medication monitoring), school wellness plans, safety planning, consultation with school staff and teachers, postvention/ step down supports from intensive/ specialized services. and work towards developing capacity for early identification of mental health and addiction problems within the school division.

Main Function:
Under the general direction of the Manager – School Based, and in collaboration with the MHA Clinicians and school social workers, the incumbent is responsible for providing clinical services to children and youth in mental health and addictions or psychosocial crisis.

Experience
  • Three (3) years of relevant clinical experience in mental health within the past five (5) years.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing required.
  • BN, or BScMH or BScPN degree preferred.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
  • Suicide Assessment and Intervention Training.
  • Trauma Informed Care Training.
  • Completion of MICST (Manitoba Indigenous Cultural Safety Training.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) or the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience in working with children and youth.
  • Family engagement and support.
  • Demonstrated cultural diversity and practices of populations served.
  • Ability to work within a complex system of services is required and collaborate with system stakeholders.
  • Resource and support development.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral communication and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to mental health and addictions, cooccurring disorders, and assessment, including crisis intervention/psychosocial assessment and other treatment modalities.
  • Counselling theories relevant to treating youth with mental health or addiction problems, such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Strength-Based Interventions, Trauma-Informed Practices, coping skills development etc.
  • Effective Crisis Intervention Skills, and group facilitation.
  • Expertise in the area of mental health and addictions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of psychosocial rehab and recovery.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with individuals with substance-related, mental health and co-occurring disorders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective networking and agency relations skills.
  • Completion of MICST (Manitoba Indigenous Cultural Safety Training.
Physical Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.
