Position Overview

The Ophthalmology Clinic Nurse in consultation with the interdisciplinary Ophthalmology Program Team, plans, implements and evaluates patient care with a focus on minor surgeries and/or clinic procedures.

The nurse provides direct care, support and educational information to patients and significant others and will participate in the collection of statistical data required for program evaluation.

The nurse is committed to interdisciplinary consultative and collaborative relationships with other members of the Health Care Team to ensure safe patient-focused care.

Experience
  • Two (2) years ophthalmic nursing required.
  • Recent acute care nursing experience an asset.
  • Experience in Ambulatory Care and minor surgical procedures preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.
  • It is recommended that, at minimum, staff possess the BLScategory of training.
  • Ability to speak French at the pre-determined linguistic level is an asset.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Works within the Centre's core values, philosophy, vision, C.Q.I. goals, policies and procedures.
  • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Ability to function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team, including collaboration, team work and good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated teaching and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Complies with PHIA and FIPPA legislation.
Physical Requirements
  • Physical health to meet the requirements of the position.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
