Position Overview

Directly accountable to the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse provides registered nursing services for patient/residents, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. These services include: independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, a leadership role within the health care team, and facilitating coordination of patient/resident care and discharge. May be responsible for directing other nurses, students, health care aides, and other support staff in patient/resident care. Collaborates with physicians and professional health staff in the facility and the community. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the Mission, Vision, Values, goals, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Deer Lodge Centre. Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment and reporting incidents or safety concerns.

Experience
  • Experience with chronic illness, geriatrics, and complex continuing care.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing educational program.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Maintain and provide proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
  • Participation in professional associations such as ARNM is preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Deer Lodge Centre's vision, values, and policies.
  • Understanding of legislation such as PHIA, WHMIS, and Universal Precautions.
  • Adherence to College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice and CNA Code of Ethics.
  • Competence in geriatrics and complex continuing care nursing care principles.
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, respond to demands, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Strong communication skills, confidentiality, and critical thinking.
Physical Requirements
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. Checks must be recent (no more than 6 months old).
